Week of Barrett-Jackson Events Benefit Foundation’s Mission to Provide Awareness, Prevention, Support, and Ultimately a Cure for Paralysis
Palm Beach, FL – A nearly week-long series of Darrell Gwynn Foundation events during the 8th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction drew to a thrilling conclusion with the auction of two special vehicles – a Shadrach supercharged “Platt and Payne Signature Edition” 2005 Mustang and the 20th Anniversary Coors Extra Gold Special replica of Gwynn’s Top Fuel dragster. Combined, the cars sold for $330,000 and Gwynn raised an additional $90,000 during the auction to help further the Foundation’s mission to provide awareness, prevention, support, and ultimately a cure for paralysis.
The Shadrach Mustang was purchased by Mike Jenkins for $190,000. The winning bidder for the historic dragster replica was Ron Pratte for $140,000. It had previously been purchased by Pratte at auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., earlier this year and has now raised a total of $550,000.
During the auction Gwynn welcomed 7-year-old Miami resident Altiris Greene, a cerebral palsy patient, onto the stage to formally present her with a new princess-themed power wheelchair that will enhance her mobility and provide increased independence. This element of the Foundation’s outreach – supporting those afflicted by spinal cord injury or debilitating disease – was dramatically showcased throughout the week as Gwynn presented new power wheelchairs to four different people at various Barrett-Jackson/Foundation events. To date, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation has donated nearly $1 million in customized, high-tech wheelchairs to deserving individuals.
“The auction was a wonderful way to cap off an incredible week,” Gwynn said. “From the bottom of my heart, I thank all the Foundation supporters and our friends at Barrett-Jackson. Without them, it would be impossible for us to make such a significant impact in the lives of those afflicted with spinal cord injuries and debilitating diseases.”
In total, the Foundation raised nearly $600,000 through the week’s Barrett-Jackson events, which included a Tuesday night inaugural “Wheels of Dreams” at John and Jeanette Staluppi’s private Cars of Dreams Museum and Wednesday night Barrett-Jackson opening gala.
