CORONA, Calif. – Thanks to foundation supporters Tom & Diane Day, the entire Day Family and all attendees and donors, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation raised over $70,000 at the Day Family Classic Cars Museum Grand Opening on June 22. The funds raised at the event will support the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s Wheelchair Donation Program, Education & Prevention Program and Patient Assistance Fund. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide AWARENESS, PREVENTION, SUPPORT and ultimately a CURE for Paralysis.

Day Family Classic Cars Museum owners Tom & Diane Day hosted the grand opening at their new museum and designated the event as a fundraiser for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. The Day’s underwrote the event covering the costs. They were presented an award for their support and generosity by Darrell Gwynn and the City of Corona Mayor Pro Tem Eugene Montanez attended the event and declared a proclamation recognizing the Day Family for their contributions to the community.

“What Tom & Diane Day have done for our foundation is immeasurable,” said Darrell Gwynn during the presentation. “As big and beautiful as this new museum is, it’s not as big and beautiful as the hearts of Tom & Diane Day.”

The new Day Family Classic Cars Museum features and array of classic and high-performance cars from many different eras including classic muscle cars from the 50’s and 60’s such as Ford Mustangs and Chevrolet Camaros to antique cars from the 30’s and 40’s. The museum has a 50’s theme to it and features displays such as a Lucille Ball themed drive-inn theatre, Mayberry Police Station featuring a classic police car autographed by Don Knotts, a retro diner, barber shop and ice cream parlor décor and a special “Vettes for Vets” display showcasing Corvettes and honoring our military just to name a few.

At the grand opening event a $20,000 wheelchair donation was made to Eduardo Reyes of Fullerton, Calif. by the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. The wheelchair he received matched a custom Ford Mustang GT 500 Convertible Coup designed by the world famous West Coast Customs team. West Coast Customs provided the matching paintjob for the wheelchair and Ryan Friedlinghaus and crew was on-hand for the wheelchair donation presentation. Both the wheelchair and the car were unveiled at the Day Family Classic Cars Museum grand opening Wednesday night. The car will be auctioned Saturday, June 25 at Barrett-Jackson Orange County with proceeds benefiting the Darrell Gwynn Foundation and Eduardo will appear on stage at the event with the car.

About the Darrell Gwynn Foundation

Founded in 2002 by Champion Drag Racer Darrell Gwynn and his wife, Lisa, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization whose mission is to provide AWARENESS, PREVENTION, SUPPORT and ultimately a CURE for paralysis. The foundation’s primary support program is its national Wheelchair Donation Program. With this program the Darrell Gwynn Foundation has donated custom built wheelchairs to hundreds of individuals in need. The foundation also maintains a Patient Assistance Fund offering support services and tools at Craig Hospital in Englewood, Colorado with aspirations to expand this model to several hospitals nationwide. The Patient Assistance Fund also supports the Betty Jane France Pediatric Center, at Halifax Hospital in Daytona, Fla. and Homestead Hospital in Homestead, Fla. Additionally, the Patient Assistance Fund provides financial support through its Fast Track Laboratory with the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis aimed at finding a cure for paralysis. The foundation operates an Education & Prevention Program directed to high school students to educate them on the dangers of risky behavior that can lead to spinal cord injuries. This rapidly growing program reaches over 10,000 students annually at over 50 high schools. In an effort to create more awareness about spinal cord injuries, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation successfully lobbied for an established Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week with a resolution passed by the Florida Legislature in 2006. With tremendous fundraising partners such as Barrett-Jackson, the NHRA, NASCAR and many more generous sponsors, individual supporters and donors, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation continues to evolve as a leading foundation for those with spinal cord injuries.
