LEVI LAMB RECEIVES WHEELCHAIR FROM DARRELL GWYNN FOUNDATION

August 14th, 2010

On Aug. 14, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation presented Okeechobee teen Levi Lamb with a brand new, custom-fitted camouflage wheelchair to replace his worn-out one. Levi received his chair from Darrell and the Foundation in front of 150 attendees of Bass Pro Shops’ 2010 Fall Hunting Classic at the Dania Beach store.

“With my new chair, I am able to get around easier and do things I couldn’t before,” Levi said. An avid outdoorsman despite the spina bifida that paralyzes him from the waist down, he also received a $500 gift card from Bass Pro Shops.

Following the wheelchair ceremony, Levi surprised Darrell by presenting him with a special plaque and trophy to recognize how Darrell and the Foundation had touched his life. “I’m honored,” Darrell said as he accepted the gifts.

“Levi is the sort of person we enjoy helping, because he refuses to let his situation deter him from doing what he enjoys. He’s a model for all of us to emulate,” he added.

The Foundation’s wheelchair donation to Levi was featured on NBC 6′s Saturday night news broadcasts and will be spotlighted in an upcoming Miami Herald article.

Whether by contributing directly to benefit recipients like Levi, or through ongoing gifts, generous individuals enable the Foundation to continue its mission to Provide Awareness, Prevention, Support and Ultimately a Cure for Paralysis. Be a hero to Levi and others like him by contributing to our Wheelchair Donation Program.

How awesome! And such a deserving young man. As the mother of a quadriplegic young man, I am coming to understand the needs of these individuals. Nothing about being handicapped is cheap! The price of a new wheelchair is staggering. The chair my son is in now was between $30,000. and $40,000. Everyone can't manage this. We couldn't. With the help of some insurance and the Brain and Spinal Cord Program of Florida, this chair was made possible. I am so excited for Levi, and I know he is going to enjoy his new chair. Thanks, Darrell Gwynn Foundation for being there with a helping hand! FYI, Levi is my son's step-nephew as well.

This is so cool. I grew up with Levi's parents and I also met Darrell Gwynn when I was in rehab after a car accident which left me paralyzed. I can remember when Levi was born and they found out he had Spina Bifida and I have keep in touch as he has grown over the years! He is a handsome young man and a flirt already…LOL
