DAYTONA BEACH, FL – (Feb. 12, 2010) – Fishing for a cause returned this morning to bass-stocked Lake Lloyd in the Daytona International Speedway as the 4th annual Spectracide® Hot Rod & Reels™ Charity Tournament was held to benefit the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.

David Ragan’s team took top honors with two bass weighing in at 9.08 lbs. Ragan’s team also caught the largest fish – 7.05 lbs. Additional drivers participating were Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Brian Vickers, Regan Smith, Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Ken Schrader, Boris Said and Austin Dillon.

Businesses and fans donated $5,000 each to be paired with the NASCAR celebrities and compete for the Hot Rods & Reels title. The event raised more than $100,000, with all proceeds benefiting the Foundation’s mission of preventing and curing spinal cord injuries and other debilitating illnesses and the Betty Jane France Pediatric Center Speediatrics® Unit at Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach.

As part of the festivities, Gwynn presented Miami-Dade College student Carl Stanley with a new $16,000 motorized wheelchair. Afflicted with cerebral palsy, Stanley’s old wheelchair was in very bad condition and the expense associated with repairing it was considerable. Because of donations it has received this year, the Foundation was able to provide Stanley with a new wheelchair, increasing his mobility and independence.
