As part of its Wheelchair Donation Program, The Foundation presents two more deserving individuals with custom chairs June 23 and June 26 in California. Through your generous contributions, our wheelchair donations to date now total approximately $1 million!
During the YearOne-Hot Rodders Children’s Charity Poker Tournament Benefiting The Darrell Gwynn Foundation, 20-year-old Blake Hunt will receive a $30,000 power wheelchair. Blake was paralyzed during a 2007 high school football game and needs a custom chair to provide the independence to make a life for himself. Our thanks to longtime friend and supporter Bill Goldberg for bringing Blake to our attention and joining us in California for the presentation.
And on Saturday, June 26, at the inaugural Orange County, Calif. Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event, Darrell will present Anaheim resident Hobal Grajeda with a new wheelchair. Grajeda, who was injured in a motorcycle accident two years ago, will receive a manual, one-arm drive chair that enhances his ability to build upper-body strength.
Hobal will be given his wheelchair onstage at Barrett-Jackson, right before two cars are auctioned to raise money for The Foundation. One of those cars is the 20th Anniversary Coors Extra Gold Dragster show car – our other “Million Dollar Set of Wheels.” The replica dragster already has brought in $550,000 and is being sold again to help us reach $1 million through the sale of this very special vehicle.
Watch SPEED Channel on Saturday, June 26th between 8-10 p.m. (EDT) to catch Darrell, the wheelchair presentation and all the spirited bidding for our two Foundation vehicles!
