“We’re excited to make this once in a lifetime collection available to the public,” said Darrell Gwynn, president of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation (DGF). “It was really an amazing gesture by Kenny & Sheryl to donate this collection to DGF. What’s more amazing are the incredible pieces of personal memorabilia from Kenny’s collection that fans will now have access to. We received a true treasure trove of keepsakes, trophies, autographed memorabilia, Budweiser collectables and more. What an opportunity for race fans to own NHRA History and celebrate the career of a racing legend, my former teammate, Kenny.”

The impressive collection of racing history includes race car bodies, race-worn items, tool boxes, jackets, crew shirts, collectible parts, novelties, art, jewelry & accessories, trophies & plaques, diecasts, fan apparel, trading cards and print collectibles. The collection is unique in that many items are from Kenny’s personal collection of memories and treasures from his brilliant racing career. Many of the items in the collection are autographed. Fans can view the entire online catalog at

Proceeds from the sales of this collection will support the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s national Wheelchair Donation Program, which donates custom power wheelchairs to individuals facing medical and financial hardships. It will also help the foundation keep teenagers safe and prevent spinal cord injuries through its Education & Prevention Program in high schools.

The collection was donated to the Darrell Gwynn Foundation with an announcement at the Tire Kingdom Gatornationals in March 2012. DGF staff transported the collection to its race shop in Florida and began the process of appraising, photographing and cataloging all 1,500+ items so they could be made available for sale. The process is complete and race fans are now one click away from owning NHRA History.

“Since our retirement from the sport at the end of last season, my wife Sheryl and I have given a great deal of thought to the disposition of so many of the items we have saved that have defined our career,” said Bernstein at the Tire Kingdom Gatornationals in 2012. “After careful consideration, we felt that donating the collection to Darrell’s Foundation was a way for us to give back to an organization that is so deeply rooted in our sport.”

Kenny Bernstein’s relationship with Darrell Gwynn and his family goes back decades. The two met when Gwynn was just a teenager and eventually were Budweiser teammates in 1987 and 1988.

Darrell Gwynn’s brilliant NHRA racing career ended in 1990 when he sustained a spinal cord injury in a racing accident during an exhibition race in England. One of the most popular drivers and considered a rising star with 28 national race victories in the NHRA before his accident, Gwynn would continue on as a racing team owner in the NHRA until 2003. In 2002, he and his wife Lisa started the Darrell Gwynn Foundation in an effort to support people living with paralysis. This September 2012 the foundation is celebrating its 10th Anniversary.
