Darrell Gwynn Foundation to Make Wheelchair Donation to Allison Kerns, a student at Shore Acres Elementary School with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, November 15 at 10 a.m.

Wheelchair Donation Part of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week, November 15-21

WHAT: The Darrell Gwynn Foundation will donate a custom motorized wheelchair to Allison Kerns, a 5 year-old student at Shore Acres Elementary School in St. Petersburg, Florida. Kerns is diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy and her health insurance coverage did not allow for her to acquire a life-changing custom wheelchair that will be provided to her by the Darrell Gwynn Foundation. Allison Kerns and the Darrell Gwynn Foundation will be joined by the St. Petersburg Muscular Dystrophy Association for the presentation. Through the services it offers, the St. Petersburg MDA supports Allison and her family.

WHY: Established in 2002, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide AWARENESS, PREVENTION, SUPPORT and ultimately a CURE for paralysis. To raise awareness for that mission, the foundation lobbied for and secured official adoption of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week by the Florida State Legislature in 2006 and each year since. The fifth Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week is being observed November 15-21, 2010.
