The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s Wheelchair Donation Program has been providing wheelchairs to young adults and children in need across the country since 2002. The wheelchair program was started to fulfill the Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission to improve the quality of life for those afflicted with paralysis from injury or disease.
The cost of a new wheelchair can be incredibly expensive, and combined with costs associated with spinal cord injuries and other debilitating diseases, it can be a financial burden for families to purchase a new wheelchair.
The Darrell Gwynn Foundation has provided more than 100 new custom wheelchairs, with a total value of approximately $1 million, to underprivileged youth and young adults. DGF works closely with the wheelchair recipients’ doctors and physical therapists to custom fit the wheelchair to meet each patient’s needs.
We will be holding a Wheelchair Presentation and Track Walk at the Maple Grove Raceway / NHRA National Event in Reading, Pennsylvania on October 9, 2010. We are still looking for a wheelchair recipient in the Reading, PA area. If you or someone you know is in need of a new wheelchair and would like to apply, please fill out the pre-application checklist.
Once this checklist is complete and submitted, a DGF representative will contact you to discuss eligibility and give you further instructions for completing the application.
To read some stories from past wheelchair recipients and to hear their experiences about how their new wheelchair has affected them, see the testimonials and success stories.
