Darrell Gwynn Foundation

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation's Education & Prevention Program strives to raise AWARENESS about spinal cord injuries while also revealing the foundation's other initiatives. To accomplish this, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation will educate young people about ways that they can PREVENT a spinal cord injury by encouraging them to think twice before participating in destructive decisions and risky behavior particularly: distracted driving, impaired driving, not wearing seatbelts, underage drinking, playing with guns, diving in unknown waters and dangerous practices while playing sports or exercising. The Darrell Gwynn Foundation's Education & Prevention program will encourage young people to make positive decisions in their lives with the intention of reducing the number of new spinal cord injuries. Through the Darrell Gwynn Foundation's Education & Prevention Program, we strive to be the national leader in spinal cord injury EDUCATION and PREVENTION.

Darrell Gwynn Foundation

The Darrell Gwynn Foundation began as a result of a catastrophic accident that occurred in 1990.  Darrell Gwynn, a world class top fuel drag racer, was tragically injured during an exhibition run.  Despite his significant injuries, Darrell’s indomitable spirit persevered, and with the support of his wife, family and friends, the Darrell Gwynn Foundation was established.

As you know, The Darrell Gwynn Foundation’s mission is to provide support for people with paralysis and prevent spinal cord injuries.  Due to the support of many, among other things, the Foundation has donated over 300 wheelchairs to those living with paralysis and spinal cord injuries, and has donated over $1.5 million dollars through its Patient Assistance Fund to support individuals living with paralysis.

But as the old saying goes, “all good things must come to an end.”  Therefore, we are no longer accepting applications for our Wheelchair Donation Program and can no longer accept any donations.  Darrell is joining The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.  Many of our programs and efforts will continue there under the Darrell Gwynn Quality of Life Chapter.  For more information, please visit www.thebuonicontifund.com.

As the Darrell Gwynn Foundation winds down, please be assured that any remaining proceeds will be donated to various charities with goals similar to that of the Darrell Gwynn Foundation.
